The ICLEI Europe Brussels Office organises this series of meetings called Breakfast at Sustainability's, hosted by local, regional and national governments represented in Brussels.

In a recent event, the collaborative efforts of ICLEI Europe and the Jacques Delors Institute converged to illuminate pathways towards an inclusive and democratic European Green Deal 2.0. Against the backdrop of escalating climate concerns and burgeoning energy poverty, the discourse resonated with a shared vision: harnessing the energy transition as a force for societal empowerment and communal prosperity.

Distinguished voices from the Sun4All and EnergyPROSPECTS projects, alongside a diverse array of stakeholders, congregated to delineate strategies that transcend conventional paradigms, prioritizing community engagement and participatory governance. The narrative echoed the burgeoning wave of citizen-led initiatives permeating the EU landscape, heralding a paradigm shift towards decentralized energy systems and grassroots empowerment.

At the core of this dialogue lay the recognition of energy poverty as both a symptom of systemic inequities and a barrier to sustainable development. As communities grapple with the dual imperatives of energy access and environmental stewardship, innovative solutions emerged as beacons of hope, illuminating a path towards resilience and social cohesion.

The impending European elections loom large as a pivotal juncture, offering a platform to amplify these voices and catalyze tangible policy reforms. From localized microgrids to community-owned renewable energy projects, the discourse underscored the imperative of mainstreaming social inclusion within the fabric of the energy transition, fostering a more equitable and resilient future for all.

As the world watches with bated breath, the clarion call for a renewed European Green Deal reverberates with optimism and resolve. Emboldened by the spirit of collaboration and driven by a collective commitment to justice and sustainability, the EU charts a course towards a future where energy poverty is but a distant memory, and prosperity is synonymous with resilience and inclusion.

In the crucible of adversity, the seeds of change are sown, nurturing a landscape where the promise of a brighter tomorrow transcends borders and resonates with the timeless refrain of solidarity and hope.
