Working Group II assesses the vulnerability of socio-economic and natural systems to climate change, negative and positive consequences of climate change and options for adapting to it.
The latest science report adds urgency for developed countries to put political commitments into concrete climate action and increase support for highly affected countries and communities:
- The Summary for Policymakers and its underlying scientific analyses make very clear that the impacts of human-made climate change, fuelled mainly by the burning of fossil fuels, are rapidly increasing, are found and experienced by people virtually all over the planet, and are already extremely severe;
- Findings also show very clearly that limiting global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels, as committed to by countries under the Paris Agreement, would significantly limit economically, ecologically and socially harmful consequences.
